Autumn Update (17/03/2011)

Welcome to the Tasmanian Region of the SSSI.

As can be seen from the image above of the Deciduous beech or Nothofagus gunii, we are moving into the cooler part of the year and our thoughts turn away from the beaches and towards the snow.

The start of 2011 has seen many natural disasters happening both in Australia and abroad and although it is very hard to grasp the enourmity of the destruction, the thoughts of myself and the Regional committee are with those suffering through this time.

The Committee has had a couple of planning sessions and has designed a schedule of events that should be of interest to all of our members. One of the highlights for the year will be our annual conference which will be at the Tamar Valley Resort on July 15th to 17th.  This years’ event should be better than ever because we will be holding a GIS Project Management seminar on the Friday, our Conference will take place over the Saturday and then on Saturday Night, along with the annual dinner, which is much enjoyed by delegates, we will be awarding the inaugural Tasmanian Spatial Excellence Awards.
Further details of these will be available soon.

We will also be holding our ever popular ‘State of GIS’ on May 17th at the Old Woolstore. We have held this event for several years now and it has proven to be very popular so mark it in your calendars.

Other events to come are a Remote Sensing seminar and several surveying ones that are still being developed. We have already held a Twilight session and there are more in the pipeline so keep an eye on the Calender of events here:
