Queensland Region welcomes you to the March edition of GeoMessage. We’re excited about so much that’s happening in the Region, and urge you to plan to participate. So see what’s on, mark your diary, and look forward to a great year with the SSSI Qld Region!
We held our second WIS breakfast on 8th February, and were delighted with the response from women (and 3 blokes!) from the public and private sectors. They had a delicious breakfast at the Cliffs Café, Kangaroo Point, overlooking the Brisbane River and the city, and were then treated to a talk from Andrea Herklots on her career experiences (including juggling the roles of wife and mother of two young boys). Then Nick de Weger gave an insight into the celebration of the Transit of Venus, a great promotion of the profession, to schools throughout the State.
Look out for the next WIS Breakfast on 4th April!
We’re excited to be announcing our new TechTraining service. SSSI presents an opportunity for software companies to offer their training under the SSSI TechTraining logo. SSSI will offer this service to enable companies to reach the SSSI audience with their brand (under certain terms and conditions). The first of our TechTraining series will be Keays Software (ADAC) followed by Carlson Software. Please contact us if your company is interested in this service!
David Carlson is the Vice President of Development in Carlson Software, and is flying out from Boston to present at this workshop. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear from the horse’s mouth, all you ever wanted to know about this software. Registration is now open!
SSSI (QLD) in association with Keays Software presents a workshop to familiarise prospective users with the new ADAC 4.0 specification for data transfer of spatial data. The term ADAC is coined from “Asset Design and As Constructed” and embodies the data standards needed to meet as built records used for the Local Authorities, Maintenance, Asset Management and Geographical Information Systems.
Visit the Qld Region Events page for much more information about what’s in the pipeline! Don’t miss the YP Speed Networking night, or the EST Workshop, which is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.
Advance Intelligence!
Watch this space for more great events.
The Twilight Series for Surveyors Session 1, will be offered to regional and remote members as a webinar.
Ambulatory Boundaries will be advertised for a later date in March.
Northern Group Conference: June 7th and 8th.
Central Group Conference : May 18th and 19th.
Visit the Transit of Venus website for a description of the Transit, and lots of fascinating historical information about its links with surveying. Lots of information too, about the competition for schools, and how you can be involved.
The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre is a fantastic venue for our biennial conference this year. Now greatly extended to be half as big again, the BCEC offers access to a great range of meeting places outside the conference, and to all the excitement that Southbank offers.
Watch out for the Call for Abstracts, which we’ll release before the end of February!
