Past Events

WASSIC 2011

Our annual conference - WASSIC 2011 - was upgraded this year at a new venue, with the addition of a mining and engineering surveying stream, with attendance from AIMS members, and a sponsor exhibition area.  Our new look conference was held at the Burswood Entertainment Complex, and with the help of a professional conference organizer Conference Images, was an outstanding success.  We are most grateful for the support of our generous sponsors: Gold - ESRI, Haefeli-Lysnar, Position Partners, CR Kennedy; Bronze - Cardno Spectrum Surveys, Gemcom, Digital Mapping Solutions, OmniSTAR; Affiliate - Land Surveys.

We were fortunate to have an excellent list of keynote speakers and session speakers, with Kelvin Brown from reflex Instruments captivating the audience with his account of the Chilean Mine Rescue, Don Abbey with his excellent expose on SP1, Ron Gibson with his enlightening approach to networking, and Dr Felicity Morel-Ednie Brown with her Mapping of Colonial Northbridge and her Historical GIS of Perth.  We are very grateful to all speakers who made this event the best ever in all respects as confirmed by delegate feedback.

Delegates enjoyed the generous interaction time with sponsors and colleagues in the sponsor area during morning and afternoon tea and lunch breaks.

Committe Meetings

The SICC Committee met in early June and welcomed Tom Brownlie to the committee as a National representative.  The very active Cadastral Interest Group held its monthly meeting on 28 June and generated much interest regarding the new Building Bill and with Planning Issues.  A recent meeting of a SSSI delegation with Vince McMullen at the Department of Planning gave the group some hope of resolving the current difficulties with their delegation of built Strata Approvals to Local Goverment.  The Regional Management Committee met in early July and were very pleased with WASSIC, especially its professional and financial success.  Members thanked WAIS for the provision of a new data projector at the Nedlands office.
