Skilled Workforce Industry Alliance
Here’s another acronym for you to file away for future use – SWIA, the Skilled Workforce Industry Alliance. In short this is the group that is responsible for looking at the industry skills issues in Queensland.
To date we’re nearing the end of Stage 1, and this has generated 6 reports outlining the key areas to be looked at. Industry has made submissions about these reports and over the next month a strategy paper will be coming out. This paper will outline how the industry would like to move forward, and how we’d like to go about it. The end of Stage 1 meeting is to be held on the 13th of July, so I’ll keep you posted on where to next!
In April a taskforce was put together to apply for government funding to address the skills shortage facing our industry. The initial expression of interest was successful and we were asking to complete a full application. To all those who took the time to complete the online surveys, your efforts are much appreciated.

Our next whole of Industry meeting to consider all these is on 13 July.
