FAQs

What do I have to do to get my documents certified?
In order to correctly certify your documents, you must ensure that a person authorised to sign Statutory Declarations, such as a Justice of the Peace (JP), has sighted the original copy of your qualification certificates and signs off on the photo copied version. If you cannot access a JP you can contact your regional SSSI office or SSSI Region Chair. Click here to contact your region.
Where can I find a Justice of Peace to certify these documents?
Please refer to your local telephone directory or visit this link for information on JP'S.
How long until my application is approved?
Membership applications take about 6-8 weeks to process. During this time you may be contacted regarding your application if further information is needed.
How can I upgrade from my student membership?
Students upgrading to other membership will need to apply for Affiliate or Associate, depending on their qualifications. You will need to complete a new Membership Application Form and tick the box for "Advancement to" and supply all supporting documentation.
I applied for membership in March however I didn't get approved until May?
Membership is calculated using pro rata rates. The relevant chargeable membership rate depends on the date that the SSSI Board of Directors has approved your application, and not the date your application is originally received.
If I have a study load of 75% am I eligible to apply for student membership?
No. You must be studying full-time to be eligible for Student membership.
How do I make a payment for membership?
Payment details for SSSI membership can be found here.
How long is the membership period?
Membership is based on the financial year. That is, from 1 July until June 30 the following year. For example, if you apply in December you will be required to renew on 1 July the following year.
How do I resign my membership?
Members wishing to resign their membership are required to do so in writing by mail, email or fax. Please include your SSSI member number, full name and contact details in your correspondence.
How can I volunteer in SSSI?
SSSI relies on its members and volunteers in a wide range of areas such as SSSI events, professional development, Committees, and also special interest groups such as Young Professionals and Women in Spatial. As a SSSI member, you can update your preferences in the Members Portal and/or contact your Regional Executive Officer.
