The SSSI Consultative Council manages membership, professional matters and professional development, certification and service delivery.
Members of the Consultative Council include all members of the Board, as well as the Chairperson or representative from: each Institute Commission Committee; each Regional Committee, the Young Professionals Institute Committee; and a representative of the Young Professionals, elected from general Institute membership.

The current chair of the SSSI Victorian region Robyn McCutcheon has a background in Cartography, GIS and Information management. She has worked for the Victorian government for many years beginning with Vic Roads and is now with the Department of Sustainability and Environment in the Information Services Branch. She is currently working as the project manager for the Victorian Mapping and address service, a web service providing address verification and mapping services to government departments.

Penny Douglas has a degree in Applied Science, majoring in Cartography from RMIT and a Graduate Diploma in Spatial Information Science from the University of Tasmania. She joined her local committee when SSI was first established having been a member of the Mapping Sciences Institute, in its different forms, since she was a student. Penny is currently the chair of the SSSI Tasmanian Region where she has resided for the past 20 years. She has worked in both the public and private sectors, in Australia and overseas. She currently works with Forestry Tasmania in their Geodata area.
