Overview

Join the SSSI SA Young Professionals for an exciting evening of presentations and networking at a function to be held at the impressive 6 Green Star Ingkarni Wardli building at the University of Adelaide.

The program includes presentations from the recent Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Award (APSEA) winners and a keynote presentation from our Sustaining Partner Aerometrex on the topic “Dense Point Cloud by Photogrammetry”.

The presentations will cater for SSSI’s diverse professionals and their common interests and will also congratulate the Students and Staff at the University of Adelaide for exhibiting South Australia’s fantastic spatial expertise at an International Award winning level.

The evening will conclude with the opportunity to network and enjoy food and refreshments.

The YP committee look forward to seeing you there!

Presentations from 6.00pm to 7.00pm

APSEA Award: Undergraduate Spatial Student Award
Winner: Valery Lawley (The University of Adelaide)
Title: Self-organisation of Regenerating Semi-arid Vegetation, Koonamore, South Australia (1926-2008)
Description: Analysis of an 82-year record of regenerating vegetation within a semi-arid environment to investigate the relative contribution of internal and external factors in community organisation.

APSEA Award: Post Graduate Spatial Student

AwardWinner: Greg Lyle (The University of Adelaide)
Title: I can’t be green if I’m in the Red”: Combining precision agriculture and remote
sensing technologies for sub field and regional decision making
Description: A wholesale change to woody perennial farming would help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, but at the expense of food and income production. This project combined precision agriculture and remotely sensed information to allow the identification of loss-making areas within
cropping fields under different scenarios. These areas could be converted to woody perennial carbon farming with a minimal impact food production, and a net increase in farm income.

APSEA Award: Environmental Sustainability Industry Award

Winners: Ken Clarke, Megan Lewis, Bertram Ostendorf, Anna Dutkiewicz and Giles Forward (The University of Adelaide)
Title: Spatial and temporal monitoring of soil erosion risk with satellite imagery
Description: This project used new generation earth-observation satellite imagery with high spectral and temporal resolution to develop a system for measuring soil exposure and vegetation cover to monitor erosion risk. These multi-temporal image indices provide objective and spatially comprehensive information about the distribution and trends in soil erosion risk across South Australia.

Presenter: David Byrne (Aerometrex)
Title: Point Clouds from Photogrammetry
Description: David presents the exciting new 3D photo point cloud technology from Aerometrex and shows its potential for GIS professionals.
