Overview

The Spatial Information and Cartography Commission of the SSSI and the Young Planners of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) are proud to present the first AURIN Masterclass in Tasmania.

The Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network (AURIN) is a $24 million initiative funded by the Australian Government's Super Science scheme. AURIN provides built environment and urban researchers, designers and planners with infrastructure to facilitate access to a distributed network of aggregated datasets and information services.

The AURIN Masterclass will give you the skills you need to access information in the AURIN portal in a series of interactive and guided exercises using your own laptop.

This Masterclass will guide participants through the AURIN portal, which includes over 750 datasets directly. The portal securely accesses this data through federated servers from across Australia, including ABS, Geoscience Australia, PSMA and Fairfax's Australian Property Monitors (APM). Further to this, advanced spatial-statistical and visual analysis routines are provided, to give participants a rapid overview of the urban information landscape.

Participants in the Masterclass will be given an introduction into the AURIN portal. AURIN experts will provide hands-on tuition and a comprehensive array of training materials. The Masterclasses are designed as a day-long session, giving participants an opportunity to undertake thematic mapping and more advanced spatial decision support exercises. There is also the opportunity for participants to workshop their own urban methods and projects and understand how AURIN can assist through the provision of data, analytical and visualization capability.
